Definition of Recount Text

A recount text has an orientation, a series of events in chronological order, personal remarks on the events, and a reorientation that “rounds off” the sequence of events.

Artinya : 
Sebuah teks recount memiliki orientasi, rangkaian peristiwa dalam urutan kronologis, pernyataan pribadi tentang peristiwa, dan reorientasi yang “membulatkan” urutan peristiwa.

Kinds of Recount Text

  • Personal recount

A recount text that has a function to talk about the author's personal experience. A personal recount is the most common type commonly used to write recount text.

  • Factual recount

Recount text which has a function to present reports about events that occurred based on facts (really happened). Examples include reports on scientific experiments or reports from the police.

  • Imaginative

A recount text that has a function to tell imaginative events. For example, a recount text that tells the author's experience in imagining a scene that he got from his dream.

  • Historical recount

Recount text that contains history. be it national or international history

  • Giving information to the readers may about experiences’ other people or events that happened

  • To entertain the reader

  • To Report scientific experiments

  • To Memorize the chronological event of a history

Artinya : 
Teks yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan dan menceritakan kembali peristiwa faktual di masa lalu, yang memiliki nilai sejarah untuk menceritakan secara objektif suatu peristiwa yang sebenarnya.

Personal Recount Text

There are 3 elements of the recount text structure, namely:

(1) Orientation (Opening)

Orientation contains the prefix of the story. This section usually describes the setting of the story such as the place and time of the experience happened.

(2) Events (Contents)

The event contains the main story of the recount text and should be a chronological order. This section describes the experience in succession from event A to event B.

(3) Reorientation (conclusion or closing of the text)

Reorientation contains repetition that consists of a conclusion or a comment are made by the writer and also consist closing the story.

(1) The participant of historical recount must be specific

(2) uses some adverb phrased to mention location, manner, and frequency

(3) in the sentences use the past tense

(4) the use of adjectives to describe the objects

(5) The historical recount should be focusing on the ordered events which were

signaled by the use of time connections like after that, after, before, finally,

etc.

== Simple Past Tense ==

* Simple Past Tense is used to talk:

a) An action that began and ended at a particular time in the past.

b) An action that occurred over a period of time but was completed in the past

c) An activity that took place regularly in the past.

for example :

  • My mother cooked fried rice Last morning.

  • Mrs. Janet taught English for Twenty years. (She doesn’t teach English at present)

  • When My brother was seven years old, he took an English course there.


* The sentence patterns are verbal sentences:

(+) Affirmative sentences ------ Subject + Verb-2 + Complement

  • Hikma attended my birthday party last year.

(-) negative sentences ------ Subject + didn’t + Verb-1 + Complement

  • She didn’t bring any present for me

(?) simple Interrogative sentences ------ did + subject + Verb-1 + Complement

  • Did she come alone to your party last year?

(?) Information Interrogative sentences ------ QW + did + subject + Verb-1 + Complement

  • Where did you celebrate your birthday party last year?


* The sentence patterns are Nomina sentences:

(+) Affirmative sentences ------ Subject + was/were + non verb

  • She was sad last night because she didn't find her favorite night gown.

(-) negative sentences ------ Subject + wasn't/weren't + non verb

  • He was not happy because you came late to her party.

(?) simple Interrogative sentences ------ was/were + subject + non verb

  • were you bored in her party last night?

(?) Information Interrogative sentences ------ QW + was/were + subject + non verb

  • Where were you last night?, I didn't see in the Jane's Birthday party.
