Definition of Recount Text

Recount is a text that tells the reader about one story, action or activity or retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to inform or to entertain the audience.
Artinya :
Recount adalah teks yang menceritakan kepada pembaca tentang satu cerita, tindakan atau aktivitas atau menceritakan kembali peristiwa atau pengalaman di masa lalu. Tujuannya adalah untuk menginformasikan atau menghibur pembaca.

The purpose of a recount is to list and describe past experiences by retelling events in the order in which they happened (chronological order). Recounts are written to retell events with the purpose of either informing or entertaining their audience (or both) or Retells an event that the writer was personally involved in.
Artinya :
Tujuan dari recount adalah untuk membuat daftar dan menggambarkan pengalaman masa lalu dengan menceritakan kembali peristiwa dalam urutan di mana mereka terjadi (urutan kronologis). Recount ditulis untuk menceritakan kembali pengalaman dengan tujuan menginformasikan atau menghibur pembacanya (atau keduanya) atau Menceritakan kembali suatu peristiwa yang penulisnya terlibat secara pribadi.

There are 3 elements of the recount text structure, namely:
(1) Orientation (Opening)
Orientation contains the prefix of the story. This section usually describes the setting of the story such as the place and time of the experience happened.
(2) Events (Contents)
The event contains the main story of the recount text and should be a chronological order. This section describes the experience in succession from event A to event B.
(3) Reorientation (conclusion or closing of the text)
Reorientation contains repetition that consists of a conclusion or a comment are made by the writer and also consist closing the story.

Using chronological connection; then, first, etc
Using linking verb; was, were, saw, heard, etc
Using action verb; look, go, change, etc
Using simple past tense
== Simple Past Tense ==
* Simple Past Tense is used to talk:
a) An action that began and ended at a particular time in the past.
b) An action that occurred over a period of time but was completed in the past
c) An activity that took place regularly in the past.
for example :
My mother cooked fried rice Last morning.
Mrs. Janet taught English for Twenty years. (She doesn’t teach English at present)
When My brother was seven years old, he took an English course there.
* The sentence patterns are verbal sentences:
(+) Affirmative sentences ------ Subject + Verb-2 + Complement
Hikma attended my birthday party last year.
(-) negative sentences ------ Subject + didn’t + Verb-1 + Complement
She didn’t bring any present for me
(?) simple Interrogative sentences ------ did + subject + Verb-1 + Complement
Did she come alone to your party last year?
(?) Information Interrogative sentences ------ QW + did + subject + Verb-1 + Complement
Where did you celebrate your birthday party last year?
* The sentence patterns are Nomina sentences:
(+) Affirmative sentences ------ Subject + was/were + non verb
She was sad last night because she didn't find her favorite night gown.
(-) negative sentences ------ Subject + wasn't/weren't + non verb
He was not happy because you came late to her party.
(?) simple Interrogative sentences ------ was/were + subject + non verb
were you bored in her party last night?
(?) Information Interrogative sentences ------ QW + was/were + subject + non verb
Where were you last night?, I didn't see in the Jane's Birthday party.
